Lammi

Lammi, where Lönnrot spent his old age, is located only four kilometres from the Paikkari Croft. Lönnrot lived in Lammi during 1876-1884. This is where he finished, among others, the Finnish- Swedish dictionary in 1880, which was his third major work. Lönnrot purchased Lammi so that he could concentrate on his writing.

The house is an interesting combination of an old traditional chimneyless hut and a 19th century upper class home. In Lammi you will get to see artefacts belonging to Lönnrot. The tour is made vivid by competent guidance. Both in the house and in its surroundings, you will be able to experience the atmosphere of Lönnrot‘s time Lammi, together with J.L.Runeberg‘s house in Porvoo, was the first building in Finland to be declared a historical landmark and granted protection by a building protection law because of its important personal history. Its surroundings were nominated as cultural sight with nation-wide importance.

Open:
The house is open to the public during summer weekends 12pm–17pm. Reserved tours are organised during other times in May – September.
